Case Studies: Curtain Service
In our first blog we would like to give information to our customers on Curtain Cleaning
Curtains are a staple item in most households, therefore we would like to let you know how we can look after them for you. We always inspect curtains brought in for cleaning & will give you the best advise on how we will proceed. You are therefore told vital information regarding the likelihood of relaxation shrinkage, possible loss of damaged fibres &/or shade changes as a result of sunlight damage. By far the most common issue is shrinkage. It is recognised in British standard BS 5867 Part I, that relaxation shrinkage (the release of tension applied to the textile during the manufacturing stage) is an unavoidable occurrence. The standard does allow the curtain maker a 3% relaxation potential, which does seem excessive especially in floor to ceiling drop lengths.
Fraying - Sometimes we see curtains become frayed during cleaning, this often happens with open & closing & exaggerated by exposure to sunlight.
Blackout/Inter linings - We often see interlinings with a plastic like coating. We will test this prior to cleaning & will show you any possible problem. We use our dry cleaning chemical on a Q-tip we touch this to the inside of the lining, should there be a problem the coating will dissolve on the point we have touched. Although Manufacturers may have put a care label with a P in a circle stating Dry Clean only we are very vigilant on double checking. Should these linings not be checked the coating will dissolve & stick the curtain together (along with making mess of our Dry Cleaning Machine).
We look forward to seeing you with your curtains & currently have 20% of Curtain & Loose Cover Cleaning.
